Gonarezhou National Park

The park's name means "sacred place of the elephants" in the language of the Shona. With a little over 5000 square kilometres, Gonarezhou is Zimbabwe's second largest National Park after Hwange. Situated in the south-eastern corner of the country, the park borders on Mozambique and South Africa and is part of the The Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area that includes the Kruger National Park and Parque Nacional do Limpopo. Three great rivers flow through Gonarezhou, the scenery is varied and breathtaking: broad sandy riverbeds; extensive systems of seasonally water-filled pans; rocky ridges; towering Baobab trees, each with its own distinctive "character"; and of course the famous Chilojo Cliffs that loom over the Runde River. Over 400 species of birds can be found in Gonarezhou along with many elephants, herds of buffalo, antelope -including some quite rare species- and of course predators including the very rare and endangered wild dogs. These are only a few of the many sightings that you can hope for on a visit to this wild area.

We have incorporated a visit to Gonarezhou National Park into our guided tour "The Rhino Route". The details of the tour are available here:
